Big Lots Recalls Recliners Due to Entrapment Hazard

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 25, 2011

Recliners manufactured by Big Lots have been recalled due to an entrapment hazard to young children, according to recent news sources.

About 375,000 products are subject to recall. The products are called Microfiber Glider Recliners with Ottomans and Leather Glider Recliners with Ottomans.

When the chair is moved, a gap between the frame and the rest of the chair is exposed. The gap is large enough that a child could become entrapped in it. The moving parts of the chairs also pose finger pinching and crushing hazards to all consumers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received two complaints in which young children were found caught in the chair. No one has been permanently injured.

Both chairs are on a base that swivels. The chairs are light brown or green microfiber, or imitation leather in a dark brown color.

The chairs retailed at Big Lots stores across the nation from January 2005 to December 2009. They were purchased for about $170.

Big Lots will provide a free repair kit in order to remedy the issue.
