About 284,000 Hearts Teddy Bears Recalled Due To Choking Hazard

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on December 23, 2011

According to news sources, a recall has been issued for about 284,000 Colorful Hearts Teddy Bears due to a choking hazard towards children arising from the possibility that the bear’s eyes could loosed and end up falling out.

The company, Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc., announced the recall after it was found that the teddy bear’s eyes can loosen, causing it to potentially fall out and posing a choking hazard for children. The recalled teddy bears are covered with fabric that has colored heart shapes printed on it.

There have been no injuries reported to date.

The recalled product has been sold from April 2011 through December 2011 and has a retail price of roughly $18.

Consumers with the recalled bears should take them away from children and return it to the point of purchase for a coupon.

As a Los Angeles product liability attorney, I’ve seen recalls of this kind in the past and know the severity of the hazards they entail. I hope this information can help raise awareness about this recalled product. Toy Chair Maker Build-A-Bear Agrees to $600,000 Penalty

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on December 19, 2011

According to news sources, the maker of Toy Beach Chairs, Build-A-Bear, has agreed to pay a $600,000 civil penalty in a settlement reached with The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after allegations that it failed to report a product defect in one of its toy chair models that resulted in injuries to consumers.

The toy bear beach chair has been reported to have sharp edges that can cause lacerations while being folded. A child’s fingertip could potentially be lodged between the frame as it is being folded. There were 10 reports of injury arising from the product between July 2007 through January 2009. The company reportedly told the Commission about the incidents sometime in March 2009. Federal law requires companies to report any injuries arising from a defective product within 24 hours.

The company reportedly denied allegations that a defective product existed or that it violated the law.

As a personal injury lawyer Los Angeles, I understand the inherent dangers of defective products and the risks they entail. I hope this information can help raise awareness about this recalled product and keep consumers safe.
