Mini Coopers Under Investigation For Reports of Engine Fires

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 13, 2011

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently investigating Mini Cooper cars after receiving reports of engine fires, according to recent news sources.

The complaints were made about the 2007 and 2008 model years of the Mini Cooper S models. Twelve complaints total were filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigations. Eight of those reported that the fire started when the engine was turned off, and five allege that the fire rendered the car damaged beyond repair.

Approximately 36,000 Mini Cooper S models were sold. No one has been injured in relation to this investigation as of yet. The NHTSA will continue to investigate the situation to find whether a recall is necessary.

Jeep Liberty Under Evaluation for Faulty Airbags

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on September 28, 2011

Jeep Liberty vehicles are currently under evaluation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after seven complaints of front airbags deploying without a crash, according to recent news sources.

The cars under evaluation are the 2002 and 2003 model years. Of the seven incidents, five consumers reported illnesses. Three reports described both the driver and passenger airbags deploying, while four reported that just the driver side passenger airbag activated.

Some of the consumers reported that the airbag light was illuminated before  the unexpected deployment, while some described it as going on and off before the incident.

The NHTSA’s Office of Defects is currently in charge of investigating the possible defect.
