A class action lawsuit has been brought against a Japanese soap manufacturer because of the danger the item posed to consumers.
In May 2011, Yuuka Cosmetics was forced to recall a soap called Cha no Shizuku, which translates to “a drop of tea.” This came after more than 500 people claimed to have a severe allergic reaction upon repeated usage of the soap, despite the fact that the people did not have any reported sensitivity to food products prior to that time. 70 people even had to receive treatment at a hospital.
The soap contained a wheat known as Glupal 19-S as one of its ingredients, and Japanese scientists believe that repeatedly using the product may have in fact caused previously non-allergic people to develop a wheat allergy. The Glupal 19-S may have a tendency to pile up in the mucous membranes of a user’s facial cavities such as the nose and eyes.
Because of the recall and ensuing class action suits, ten other companies have recalled cosmetics with wheat. In the March 2012 issue of the Journal of University of Occupational and Environmental Health, scientists from Japan advised people allergic to gluten to stay away from wheat-containing cosmetics.
Even though this is happening in Japan, I feel the subject is still important to a Long Beach personal injury lawyer like me. Products have a tendency to make their way overseas, and even if they don’t, one country’s safety hazard today could become another country’s tomorrow. I will be paying attention to this story as a personal injury attorney in Ventura.
According to various news sources and different blogs, the San Jose, CA based cosmetics firm Purity Cosmetics has issued a recall for their 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Cocoa Plum Eye Shadow.
Representatives from the company have announced that the Lot #1B11 was contaminated. After tests were run, it was proved that Pseudomonas Luteola was present in the ingredients. This bacteria is the cause of several health issues like bacteremia, cellulitis and peritonitis.
Reports attest that Radical Cosmetics manufactured the recalled product. The New Jersey-based company is a 3rd party contract lab and it’s allegedly an entirely separated entity from Purity Cosmetics.
The company assures consumers that all other products manufactured in the Purity Cosmetics facility were tested and found to be completely free of bacteria. The item that was recalled has been shipped to the following states: NY, CA, OK, TX, IN, PA, IL, MN, OR, VA, TN, FL.
As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I urge all Purity Cosmetics users to make sure they are not using the contaminated products. Call the company right away so they can assess this situation. Remember to never wait if you are a victim in a personal injury case related to product liability, contact a product liability lawyer right away.
A Mexican beauty cream has been recalled by Chihuahua State Health Risks Commission after several poisoning cases were documented, according to recent news sources.
Texas Department of Health Services officials reported 44 mercury poisoning cases in relation to the beauty cream.
The cream, called Crema Aguamary, can cause personality changes, nervousness, irritability, tremors, elevated blood pressure, memory loss, pins-and-needles sensation in extremities, severe pains or cramps in arms and/or legs, muscle aches, excess protein in the urine, and renal failure.
Health agency officials in Juárez are currently searching for the product in stores to remove it from shelves. The public is encouraged to report sales of the cream. No poisoning cases have been reported in Mexico.
As a product defect lawyer, if you or a loved one has been injured because of a defective cosmetic product, I suggest you seek medical attention right away. It can also be just as important to contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer as soon as possible because you may be entitled to monetary compensation as a result of getting injured because of a defective or recalled product. You should also remember that the longer you take to contact someone about your case the more chance you have to lose evidence.
