Five Companies Agree to Assist in Recall of Tots in Mind Crib Tents

Sometimes, as you’ll see in this next story, it’s up to retailers to step up to the plate when a company that sells a defective product stops operating.

Tots in Mind, Inc., who was responsible for manufacturing a number of defective crib tents and play yard tents, has gone out of business.  Those tents were determined to have a safety hazard, and now, to make sure that the items can still get returned properly, Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Amazon, Walmart, and the Burlington Coat Factory have all agreed to give any consumers who purchased the items from one of the aforementioned stores either store credit or a full refund, depending on the store.

The products in question pose an entrapment and a strangulation hazard.  It was because of these hazards that a recall had to be initiated on July 15, 2010.  There have been 27 reported instances of the item malfunctioning and endangering the child inside.  In one of those instances, a boy of just two years old died because he became trapped between rails.  And in another case, another two year old suffered a brain injury due to the crib tent inverting and harming the child.

330,000 units have the potential defect, and various models are encompassed by the recall.  The best way for customers to identity the product is to look for a two inch wide Tots in Mind logo near the top of the tent.

Recall: Land of Nod Bed Frames Due To Entrapment Risks

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 10, 2012

According to news sources, a recall has been issued for about 1,600 units of Blake Bed Frames after it was found that a gap between the footboard’s top rail and the mattress can end up posing an entrapment hazard for a child or infant.

The company, The Land of Nod, announced the recall after the firm reportedly received a report of an incident involving a child being entrapped in the gap between the mattress and the footboard’s top rail. The child was safely removed and there have been no reports of injury to date. The recalled bed frames have the words “Blake” and “The Land of Nod” printed on a barcode sticker which can be located on the headboard.

Consumers with the recalled bed frames should take them away from children and return them to the point of purchase for a free replacement. For additional questions regarding the recall, contact the company directly at (800) 933-9904.

Big Lots Recalls Recliners Due to Entrapment Hazard

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 25, 2011

Recliners manufactured by Big Lots have been recalled due to an entrapment hazard to young children, according to recent news sources.

About 375,000 products are subject to recall. The products are called Microfiber Glider Recliners with Ottomans and Leather Glider Recliners with Ottomans.

When the chair is moved, a gap between the frame and the rest of the chair is exposed. The gap is large enough that a child could become entrapped in it. The moving parts of the chairs also pose finger pinching and crushing hazards to all consumers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has received two complaints in which young children were found caught in the chair. No one has been permanently injured.

Both chairs are on a base that swivels. The chairs are light brown or green microfiber, or imitation leather in a dark brown color.

The chairs retailed at Big Lots stores across the nation from January 2005 to December 2009. They were purchased for about $170.

Big Lots will provide a free repair kit in order to remedy the issue.
