Brian Panish in the Spotlight for his 18-Year Win Streak: Southern California’s Best Lawyers

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 23, 2010

Panish Shea & Boyle LLP partner Brian Panish has been included in a “Cover Spotlight” within Southern California’s Best Lawyers 2011 publication. Best Lawyers magazine acknowledges Mr. Panish for his 18-year consecutive win streak as a trial lawyer and “fierce competitor” who represents those affected by another party’s negligence or intentional wrongdoing.

Mr. Panish told Best Lawyers that what is most important to him is “to do something for the clients…there are so many people out there that we’ve made their life better and we’ve made products safer.” Mr. Panish also states that his desire to be competitive motivated him to become an attorney. Mr. Panish began setting records outside of the courtroom in high school as a highly competitive football, basketball and baseball player. He was offered a football scholarship to Fresno State where he played for the school and was recently named a 2010 outstanding alumnus during the school’s centennial celebration.

In the Best Lawyers article, Mr. Panish emphasizes that, similar to having a strong sports team, in order to most effectively represent clients, it is important to have a strong legal team. Mr. Panish states, “We have passion for what we do…it is a team and the key is getting the talented people on the team and then developing them.”

The article also recognizes Mr. Panish’s landmark verdicts, including three out of the four jury awards in California’s legal history exceeding $50 million in compensatory damages, which Mr. Panish obtained.
Brian Panish also received the number-three ranking in the 2010 list of Top 10 Southern California Super Lawyers and has been ranked among the “100 Most Influential Attorneys” in the State of California by The Los Angeles Daily Journal. Mr. Panish was also recently recognized by the California chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates as Lawyer of the Year.

Panish Shea & Boyle LLP Partners Recognized as Among Southern California’s Best Lawyers

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 23, 2010

Panish Shea & Boyle LLP partners Brian Panish, Adam Shea, and Kevin Boyle have been selected for inclusion in the 2011 Edition of Southern California’s Best Lawyers®, which is published as a supplement to the Los Angeles Times, in the area of Personal Injury Litigation. Attorneys selected for this honor are also included in The Best Lawyers in America® publication. Lawyers are chosen for the Best Lawyers publication based solely on evaluations by other lawyers – usually those handling cases in the same practice area. Evaluating lawyers are asked which attorney they would refer a friend or relative to if they could not handle a case themselves. Lawyers included on the list “must earn a spot through exemplary legal work that attracts the notice of their colleagues” and, to maintain their place on the list, “they must be at the top of their game year after year.” The listing is considered “the preeminent referral guide to the legal profession in the United States.”

Earlier this fall, Panish Shea & Boyle LLP was named a “Tier 1” Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation Firm by the U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers® in the 2010 Best Law firms rankings. Only five law firms in Los Angeles and twelve law firms in Los Angeles County were ranked as a “Tier 1” firm in the Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation area.

Panish Shea & Boyle LLP is honored that its partners have been recognized by Best Lawyers as among Southern California’s Best Lawyers in 2011. Over the past five years, the firm has obtained over fifteen verdicts and settlements in excess of $10 million in cases. Altogether, the attorneys at Panish Shea & Boyle LLP have obtained over two-hundred verdicts and settlements over $1 million, including 3 out of the 4 personal injury verdicts in California in excess of $50 million. Judge Peter Polos To Join Panish Shea & Boyle LLP

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on February 22, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Press Release) – Los Angeles, California, February 22, 2010

Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Polos, 45, will join prominent plaintiff’s firm Panish Shea & Boyle LLP in an “Of Counsel” role following his retirement from the bench on February 19, 2010, the firm said Monday. “The firm is thrilled that Judge Polos will be joining us,” Brian Panish said in a statement. “The Judge’s background as a very successful plaintiff’s lawyer and his years of experience handling complex cases on the bench will make him a tremendous asset to the firm. We could not be happier. Plus, despite all of his experience he still has a long career ahead of him,” Panish said. Panish added, “Judge Polos brings a unique perspective to our firm. He knows the personal injury landscape as an experienced trial lawyer and understands how judges and juries want to see cases presented. He will help maximize the effectiveness of our firm’s trial litigation approach and ensure that the unique strengths of every lawyer in our office are used optimally to benefit our clients.”

Judge Polos will be the firm’s Director of Litigation and will assist in overseeing the firm’s entire litigation practice including mass tort cases, personal injury cases, business litigation and product liability cases. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Polos was a member of the Plaintiff’s Executive Committee of the Coordinated Fen/Phen Litigation; he was on the Executive Committee for the Coordinated Ford/Firestone Litigation; and was the Co-Lead Counsel for Southern California for the Coordinated Sulzer Hip Litigation. As Panish Shea & Boyle’s Director of Litigation, Polos will evaluate the viability of new cases and captain the firm’s pre-litigation investigation and forensic evaluative efforts. When in litigation, Polos will assist with assigning attorneys to various aspects of cases as dictated by their areas of strength and concentration. He will also work with experts to develop understandable courtroom graphics and teaching tools, and will direct and coordinate pre-trial focus group inquiries.

Judge Polos said that although he has greatly enjoyed his service on the bench over the last eight years the opportunity to work with one of the best plaintiff’s firms in the country was something he could not pass up. He cited the firm’s excellent reputation and his longtime respect for what the firm has done to represent consumers.

Polos was appointed to the Superior Court on December 24, 2000 by Governor Gray Davis and was sworn in on February 8, 2001. He spent most of his time on the bench on the court’s General Civil panel handling complex civil cases. He also handled felony and misdemeanor criminal trials.

He began his legal career working as an associate with the late David M. Harney who was nationally recognized as one of the country’s best personal injury trial attorneys and was a founding member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) founded in Los Angeles in 1958. Polos himself is a longtime member of ABOTA. At the Harney office, Polos tried medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability cases.

After eight years at the Harney firm, Polos served as a partner with the Orange County firm of Lopez, Hodes, Restaino, Milman, Skikos & Polos in Newport Beach until he was appointed to the bench in December 2001. During this time he also consulted with nationally recognized plaintiff’s firm Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson on complex mass tort cases.

Judge Polos received his undergraduate degree from UCLA and is a graduate of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He and his wife Kristie have two children, Jonathan and Mary.
