Jeep Recall

More than 1,600 Jeeps recalled due to fuel tank issue

The Chrysler Group Limited Liability Company has announced a voluntary recall for 1,689 of its Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass sport utility vehicles due to a potentially defective fuel tank assembly. The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 17, 2011, and January 2, 2012 and bear a 2012 model year designation.  The vehicles affected by this recall may have been assembled with a damaged roll over valve in the fuel tank. If a vehicle with an inadequate roll over valve is involved in a collision or roll over incident, the vehicle could leak fuel, increasing the danger of a fire hazard.  Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners affected by this recall in June of 2012. The automaker will refer owners to licensed Jeep dealerships, which will replace any defective roll over valves at no cost to the consumer. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact the manufacturer and reference Chrysler recall number M11 or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and reference NHTSA Campaign ID Number 12V142000.

As a San Francisco car accident lawyer, it is my heartfelt hope that this recall is carried out quickly and effectively to reduce the risk that this potential malfunction will cause anyone harm. If you have been injured in an auto collision linked to a defective auto part, please consider hiring the services of a San Francisco personal injury attorney.

NHTSA Reexamines Defective Jeep

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on September 20, 2011

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has stepped up an investigation involving the Chrysler Jeep Liberty after receiving more reports of rear lower control arm failures, according to news sources.

The investigation began last April and the NHTSA has received 13 total complaints about the defective lower control arm. Three of the drivers reported losing control of the vehicle, but no crashes occurred as a result. The agency is examining vehicles from the 2002-2005 model years. About 370,000 Jeeps are involved in the investigation.

All of the complaints were in regards to models from the 2004-2005 years in states that have extreme weather that requires road salt, according to the NHTSA. After Chrysler reported they made changes in 2004 to the rear suspension, the NHTSA has refocused their investigation on the 2004-2005 model years.

As a product liability lawyer in Los Angeles, I’m glad to hear that the government is investigating this issue and I hope they come to conclusions before anyone is injured. If you have ever been involved in a crash as a result of a faulty car part, I recommend you contact a personal injury lawyer to help you proceed with your case. Remember, the law limits the amount of time you can file a claim, so contact a product defect lawyer as soon as possible.
