The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is awarding one million dollars to 8 groups for developing emergency training programs for miners and also preparing workers to avoid any accident while working in underground mines, according to recent news sources.
This has been announced by U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration and is called as Brookwood-Sago grants. This notification was issued on Thursday.
The names of the institutes that will be receiving these grants are the University of Arizona, Penn State University, the Colorado School of Mines, Wheeling Jesuit and Marshall universities in West Virginia, Bevill State Community College in Alabama, the United Mine Workers of America Career Centers Inc. in Washington, Pa., and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy.
These grants have been named after those 13 men that lost their lives in explosions at Jim Walter Resources mine, located in Brookwood Alabama in 2001. The name is dedicated to 12 other men who also lost their lives at Sago Mine in West Virgina in a 2006 incident.
