A California company is recalled 1,800 lots of frozen ground tuna after discovering elevated histamine levels in the product, according to recent news sources.
The company is Osamu Corporation of Gardena, California. The histamine levels can be heightened even more by the state that the tuna is currently in. Histamine in food can cause tingling or burning of the mouth, swelling in the face, rash, hives, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or itchy skin.
The product subject to recall was shipped from August 18, 2011 to September 8, 2011 to AFC Corporation, Red Shell Foods and Pacific Fresh Fish Company. Red Shell Foods has sushi franchises in California super markets in Calabasas, Century City, Dana Point, Encino, Hollywood, Irvine, Los Angeles, Marina del Rey, Newport Beach, North Hollywood, Northridge, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Barbara, Sherman Oaks, Silverlake, Tarzana, West Hollywood, and Westlake Village.
Three reports of illnesses have been documented by people who ate sushi at a single location.
