Starwest Organic Celery Seed Recalled Due To Salmonella Contamination

According to news sources, Starwest Botanicals has issued a recall for its Starwest Organic Celery Seed (Whole) product after it was discovered that the spice was potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

The announcement of the voluntary recall came after a customer reportedly notified the company, Starwest Botanicals, of the potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled celery seed products have UPC 7-6796310619-3 and 7-6796307864-3, along with lot numbers F7073 and 40203, which can be located at bottom of the recalled pouch.

There have been no illnesses reported to date.

Consumers with the recalled product should stop using it immediately and contact the company at 1-800-800-4372 for any questions or concerns. For a full refund, consumers can simply return the product to the place of purchase.

Salmonella Contamination Prompts Soy Flour Recall

A Michigan manufacturer is recalling soybean flour and bulk soy meal due to a fear of salmonella contamination, according to recent news sources.

The company announcing the reall is Thumb Oilseed Producer’s Cooperative in Ubly, Michigan. The company has recalled 2623, 40 lb. bags and 360, 1500 lb. totes of soybean flour; in addition to 924, .08 ton loads of bulk soy meal. The product was shipped to wholesalers in Illinois, Vermont, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Canada from November 2010 through September 2011.

The soy flour was distributed in 40 lb. paper bags under the names Nex Soy (Lot numbers TF112310 thru TF033011) and Soy Beginnings (Product Code 285100-NFB; Lot numbers TF112310 thru TF033011). The soy flour was also distributed in 1500 lb. polyurethane totes under the name Soy Beginnings (Product Code 285100-NFT, Lot numbers TF112310 thru TF082311). The soy meal was distributed as .08 ton loads after custom processing with Lot numbers O011711 thru O081711.

No illnesses have been reported.

A Kentucky manufacturer has issed a recall for its Garden Salads and Chef Salads due to a possible Salmonella contamination, according to recent news sources.

The salads subject to recall are the 6 oz Garden Salads and 5.6 oz Chef Salads, made by Thorntons, Inc. The products were distributed in Chicago, Ill, Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Evansville, IN, Lexington, KY and Nashville, TN by Greencore U.S.A.

The salads both come in black bowls with a clear plastic lid with the “use by” date of September 30, October 2, or October 3.

California Grape Tomatoes Recalled Over Salmonella Contamination

Grape tomatoes are being recalled by a San Diego, California grower after they tested positive for Salmonella, according to recent news sources.

The sweet grape tomatoes were shipped all over the United States from Andrew Williamson Fresh Produce located in San Diego. The tomatoes were grown in Baja, California and were sold from September 1 through September 27. About 640 cases of the product, 5,120 pounds total, were sold.

A spokesman for the company said that no illnesses have been reported thus far. The contamination was discovered at a test in Michigan. Production at the farm has since been halted.

The tomatoes known for the sweetness and marketed as a snack tomato called Olivia.
