tire recall

Two tire models pose blowout hazards

Two tire manufacturers have announced voluntary recalls of their products recently in two separate cases.

Cooper Tire and Rubber Company has issued a recall for specific units of its Discoverer light vehicle tires, size LT245/75R16, manufactured between February 12, 2012, and March 10, 2012 due to the possibility that they were designated with an incorrect maximum load rang and maximum permissible air pressure imprinted in the tire’s interior wall. This incorrect marking may lead consumers to under inflate the tires or allow the tire to bear a weight heavier than the tire’s capacity, increasing the likelihood of an unexpected blow out and putting the driver at greater risk of an auto collision.

Multistrada Arah Sarana has issued a voluntary recall for more than 36,500 16-inch light truck tires manufactured between January of 2009 and November of 2011 due to a risk of sidewall blistering caused by the tire’s narrow bead tread design. The tires were sold in the United States under the brand names Achilles Desert Hawk and Radar Radial RLT-9. The tires’ defective design puts them in violation of federal safety standards regulating light truck tires.

As a San Bernardino car accident attorney, I sincerely hope that these potentially defective tires are recalled before the cause any harm to people or property. If you have been injured in a collision linked to a defective auto part, please consider discussing your legal options with a San Bernardino personal injury lawyer.

Toyo Tire Product Recalled Due to Safety Issue

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 25, 2012

As a Bakersfield car accident attorney, I know how dangerous driving on the roads can sometimes be.  We rely on our cars to keep us safe from any and all possible obstacles.  That’s why it’s so sad to see the very systems we rely on turn out to be faulty in some aspect.

The Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corporation has issued a recall of a very specific series of tires.  The size P225/60R16 tires in question were manufactured at a plant in White, Georgia between the 38th week of 2009 and the 44th week of 2010.

The problem involves the bead area of the tires.  Apparently, the product may have been made with a kink in this area.  If left unchecked, this kink could produce a crack in the bead area near the rim.  If this happens, it could mean the failure of the tire, which would result in loss of vehicle control and a possible crash.

To tell if one of your tires is affected, one must check the last four digits of the TIN on the sidewall.  The affected units range from 3809 to 4410.  If your vehicle is affected, you can have the tires replaced for free.

Any car accident is a tragedy, but as a car accident attorney in Bakersfield, the ones that really sting are those in which the crash resulted through no error on the driver’s part.  It’s too bad that such a problem as described could develop, but it’s nice to see a recall announced to fix the issue.

20,000 Cars Recalled Because of Misplaced Label Information

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 31, 2011

News sources state that vehicles from 2006 through 2012 manufactured by Volvo are being recalled. This happened due to a possible misplacement of the right labels for the inflation pressure in the tires.

The manufacturer claims that there is a significantly decreasing number of new cars coming from the factory with spare tires. The recalled vehicle models and years of manufacturing are listed in the document issued by the company along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The car maker declared that the spare tires were installed not at their facilities but either at the port or at the dealerships. Due to a possible issue with the labeling at these various locations, the proper inflation pressure information wasn’t available. Without the proper repair, drivers may have to deal with tire failure, which may lead to accidents.

Volvo has made a notification to all drivers that the proper information regarding tire maintenance can be found in the owner’s manual. After the recall issue, Volvo car dealers will inspect the vehicles and make the necessary modifications for their owners, free of charge.

As a Los Angeles car accident lawyer, I understand the importance of keeping your car always in good conditions. In case you or a loved one has been the victim of damages caused by a similar issue with your vehicle, contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer as soon as needed.
