Henry Gordy International has reached a settlement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission over allegedly failing to report a safety hazard with one of their products, according to recent news sources.
The product which poses the safety threat is a toy dart gun for children, call the Auto Fire Target Set. The company will pay a $1.1 million fine.
Three children died when they placed the toy into their mouth and inhaled it, blocking the air passage. The product was recalled in May 2010, affecting about 1.8 million toys.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Henry Gordy Internation was aware of the danger in May 2006, and they also made a “material misrepresentation” during an investigation by the CPSC.
The product was sold between September 2005 and January 2009 in Family Dollar stores for about $1.50.
