Action Figures Recalled Due to Lead Paint Levels

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 24, 2012

It’s not a good day over at the Lee Carter Company of San Francisco.

It was reported earlier that one of their products, a baby rattle, was facing a recall.  But apparently that’s not the end of their troubles.

The company has also just recalled a product called Super Luchamania Action Figures.  The reason?  Levels of lead paint were excessive, as reported by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

About 7,000 packs of the figures were affected by the recall.  The figures came in packs of 12 and were sold between $12 and $14 at various craft stores across the country between June 2000 and October 2011.  They were originally manufacture in Mexico.

The figures are multi-colored plastic wrestlers with plastic capes.  They’re about four inches tall.  The words “Super Luchamania” are printed at the top of the package.

No injuries have been reported, but nevertheless, parents should take the toys away and send them back to the Lee Carter Company for a refund.

As a Ventura personal injury lawyer, it’s sad to see a recall on a product that has been widely available for ten years.  Still, better late than never.  Parents need to always be aware of how safe the products they give their children are.  You never know when a toy as seemingly innocuous as an action figure will slip through the cracks and pose a danger.  I’m a personal injury lawyer in Ventura, and I can attest that sometimes even little things can pose a big hazard.

Recall: Toys Distribution Inc. Baby Rattles Due To Choking Risks

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on December 14, 2011

According to news sources, about 50 units of the Baby Rattles children toy have been recalled after it was found that the toy parts can break into small pieces, therefore posing a potential choking hazard to children.

The company, Toys Distribution Inc., has announced the recall in cooperation with The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after it was found that the toy pieces can break into small pieces that can cause children to choke on them if swallowed. The recalled toy sets have either Item No. 58083801 or Item No. 308363 printed on the package.

There have been no injuries reported to date. The recalled products were sold from Dec 2009 to Dec 2010 for a retail price of about $2.

Consumers with the recalled product should take them away from children immediately and return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I’ve seen recalls of this kind in the past and know the severity of the hazards they entail. I hope this information can help raise awareness about this recalled product. Swimsuit and Inner Tube from Build-A-Bear Recalled

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 17, 2011

According to many news outlets, the company Build-A-Bear has issued a recall for exact 19,720 inflatable inner tubes and swimsuit sets for teddy bears. Reports have showed that the plastic tube that is part of the set can be pulled over the child’s small head and end up turning into a strangulation hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission along with the manufacturer claimed that there was one report of an unfortunate incident where a 3-year-old girl tried to remove the tube over her head but allegedly wasn’t able to.

The whole set of swimsuit and the inner tubes were distributed all over the country by Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and were available for consumers between April and August 2011. The same company is also recalling over one thousand swimwear units sold in Canada.

For all consumers who might have purchased this item, the recalled set has the number 017220 located on the price sticker and yellow flowers printed on the pink inner tubes.

As a Los Angeles product liability lawyer, I understand that the company has showed responsibility in recalling this problematic product but sometimes, companies don’t show the same care for their consumers, if that ever happens to you don’t hesitate in contacting a personal injury lawyer to assist you with your case.

Toy Recalls Are Less Frequent but Toy-related Injuries Are Still High

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 16, 2011

According to the morning news, recalls issued for toys have been declining since 2008. Regardless of this excellent decline, the number of consumers being injured by toy products is still alarming. During the year of 2011 there were 34-catalogued toy recalls against 172 toy recalls in the year of 2008.

Reports from the Consumer Product Safety Commission show that toy-related deaths of children who are younger than 15 had an unfortunate increase in the year of 2010. The number of injured kids is still extremely high.

Toy-related fatalities reached the staggering number of seventeen. Most of the reported deaths were allegedly results from choking on balls and balloons, which are extremely hard to regulate properly.

Over 200,000 kids were taken to emergency rooms because of injuries caused by the their toy handing habits. According to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, all toy standards are entirely mandatory. Starting January 1st, all toymakers will have to take their products to an independent lab so the toy in question will be certified. All toys must meet the requirements proposed by the new law.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act also claims that the major U.S. retailers should have a third party to test all toys.

As a Los Angeles product liability lawyer, I urge all readers to be aware that products can fail and pose major risks to your children. Never leave them alone with new toys that can hurt them in any way and remember to contact a personal injury lawyer to answer your questions regarding any injury case you might have been the victim of.

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 3, 2011

There was a recall issued for Toulouse-LapTrec magnetic sketchpads due to a possible choking hazard related to the item’s pen tip, according to various news sources.

The company assesses that 95,000 Sketchpads should be recalled in the U.S. alone and about 4,300 in Canada. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced this morning that due to the drawing pen tip getting detached, the toy may pose a choking threat to young children.

The manufacturer has stated that there were 19 reports of the sketchpad’s pen being detached unexpectedly although there were no injuries reported so far. Models to be recalled are the ones with red frames, numbered BX1026 and the ones with brown frames, numbered BX1027.

Consumers should contact the manufacturer at their website or through the number 866-665-5524.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I’m quite familiar with cases that involve child safety issues. As a parent, I see the sharing of news related to possible threats to children’s health as something highly important. By keeping up with them, you maintain your child safe from future issues that could otherwise be proven fatal. Contact a personal injury lawyer so you may ask everything you need to know whenever involved in a child safety related case, don’t delay.

Disney-branded plastic tracks recalled

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 1, 2011

News reports have stated that the toy manufacturer Kiddieland Toys Limited had to issue a recall of about 12,000 Disney Fairies Plastic Racing Trikes.

After the reports regarding a 3-year-old girl allegedly suffering from a laceration near her right eye, the company investigated the case thoroughly. It was noticed that the fairy figures made of plastic can be projected from the handle bar turning the toy into a laceration hazard in case a child falls on top of them while playing.

The company has reported that parents should take the toy away from their children immediately. If you own this product, contact Kiddieland for a corrected free replacement handlebar that contains an enclosed rotating display free of charge.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is still open to receive all the reports of injuries related to the product and urges consumers to contact them right away in case they have word of any injuries.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I believe that children’s safety is a priority. We must be alert when our kids are playing with a new toy. In the unfortunate case of a toy playing a major role in the injury of your child, don’t hesitate to call a personal injury lawyer to assist you with the case

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 12, 2011

Henry Gordy International has reached a settlement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission over allegedly failing to report a safety hazard with one of their products, according to recent news sources.

The product which poses the safety threat is a toy dart gun for children, call the Auto Fire Target Set. The company will pay a $1.1 million fine.

Three children died when they placed the toy into their mouth and inhaled it, blocking the air passage. The product was recalled in May 2010, affecting about 1.8 million toys.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and LM Import & Export, Inc, of Miami, FL, issued the recall of about 1,900 of their products. The toys were distributed by Mega Wholesales Corporation.

The hazard is the surface paint on the toys and the excessive amount of lead it contains, which is a violation of the lead paint standard set by the federal government. The cars come in packages of six or four and are silver, blue, or black with red stickers. The packaging has item numbers “43835” and “43836” printed on it.
