By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on September 27, 2011

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned the public not the eat raw oysters from Hood Canal Area 4 in Washington State due to an illness outbreak from a bacteria.

The bacteria is Vibrio parahaemolyticus. There have been five separate cases of possible illness linked to the oysters, according to news sources. The Department of Health in Washington State has shut down the growing area and issued a recall. Reportedly, 23 other states were shipped the oysters, as well as four other countries.

The illness caused by the bacteria causes symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. A consumer can be affected up to five days after eating the oysters. Especially at risk are those with compromised immune systems, alcoholics, those with liver, stomach, or blood disorders, cancer, diabetes, or kidney disease.

The oysters were distributed in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Utah, and Washington, and to China, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Thailand.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, consumer health is something that I am very conscious of and I know that even with tough rules and regulations on manufacturers mistakes can still be made. I encourage anyone who is experiencing the symptoms of food poisoning to seek immediate medical attention. The product defect lawyer at our law firm sincerely hopes that no one has been sickened by consuming the recalled oysters.
