Electric Motion Systems, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a recall of their rechargeable lithium-poly battery due to a fire hazard, according to recent news sources.
About 70 products are subject to recall. The battery is used in electric bikes and propulsion systems. It’s a 37 volt, 10Ah battery. The batteries have “EMS# 11819-101” on them and a serial number between 10001 and 10200. They were sold individually and as a part of the E+ Flex Kit.
The company has received three different reports of the battery catching fire, one in which the consumer was injured.
The batteries were sold in bike shops across the U.S. and the company’s website from October 2009 to November 2010. They retailed for about $900 to $1,000. The Kits they were sold in sold for between $2,325 and $2,675.
Consumers should contact Electric Motion Systems in order to arrange for a free replacement.
