Car safety is all important when you head out on the road, never more so than when an infant is in the vehicle.
Britax Child Safety has announced a recall of 14,220 Chaperone infant car seats, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The products in question were manufactured between September 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011. The model numbers affected have the same initial digits but their final seventh digit distinguishes them, i.e. E9L692J, E9L692K, E9L692L, and E9L692M. This information can be found on a label attached to the car seat.
The problem has to do with a faulty harness adjuster. Because of a defective rivet, the adjuster can pull away from the seat. As such, the infant won’t be properly secured in the event of an accident.
Thankfully, no injuries or deaths have been reported at this time. On February 6, Britax is set to begin notifying owners and shipping repair kits. The company will replace the entire car seat if your harness has already detached (you should also immediately cease use if this has happened).
