Listeria contamination has led to another recall, this time of chopped romaine lettuce from a California farm, according to recent news sources.
The recall is being conducted voluntarily by True Leaf Farms of Salina, California. Ninety cartons of chopped romaine are affected by the recall. The farm shipped the cartons to a food service distributer in Oregon, which may have then sold it to at least two other states. Those two states are Washington and Idaho.
The Food and Drug Administration discovered the contamination during a routine sampling. The product affected has a code of B256-46438-8 and a use by date of September 29.
This recall is especially alarming when the recent recall of cantaloupe due to Listeria contamination is considered. That recall has led to 16 deaths and 72 illnesses. Especially at risk are elderly people, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems.
