The outbreak of Listeriosis that has caused eight deaths has been expanded to include five more states, making the total number of states affected 22, according to news sources.
The Food and Drug Administration found that cantaloupes were also sold in Arkansas, California, Idaho, Ohio and Oklahoma, as well as the previously mentioned 17 states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
The tainted fruit may contain labeling that reads: Colorado Grown, Distributed by Frontera Produce, USA, Pesticide Free, Jensenfarms.com, and/or Sweet Rocky Fords.
However, the cantaloupes may not be labeled. If consumers are concerned, they can consult the store to learn the cantaloupe’s origin.
Listeriosis is a serious infection that is particularly dangerous to the elderly, young children, pregnant women and their unborn child, and those with compromised immune systems.
