On January 26, 2011, U.S. District Court Judge David Katz chose Panish Shea & Boyle LLP’s Honorable Peter J. Polos (ret.) to serve on the Plaintiff’s Leadership Committee in the DePuy ASR Hip Implant Litigation pending in federal district court in Toledo, Ohio.
As one of thirteen lawyers on the Steering Committee, Polos will assist in leading the personal injury litigation against DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. concerning its recalled ASR Hip Implant systems. Judge Katz also selected members for an Executive Committee and a variety of other committees.
Over one hundred plaintiffs’ attorneys were in the running for leadership roles in the MDL, which is anticipated to include hundreds of cases.
In recognizing the privilege of being appointed to the committee, Polos stated, “It is a honor to be appointed to the Steering Committee. We look forward to working with all of the committees in holding DePuy responsible for the injuries its hip implant systems have caused to thousands of people.” Firm partner and attorney Brian Panish also stated, “As an experienced litigator and former judge, I believe Judge Polos will provide a unique and important perspective to the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee.”
Polos manages Panish Shea & Boyle LLP’s complete litigation practice as the Director of Litigation. He also coordinates the firm’s DePuy hip implant litigation. Before joining the legal team at Panish Shea & Boyle in early 2010, Polos was a Superior Court Judge in Orange County, California for eight years and presided over 250 trials. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Polos was a partner at a Newport Beach, California mass tort firm where he carried out various tasks, including coordinating Sulzer Hip Litigation.
