According to news sources, a recall has been issued for about 239 Karma electric sedans due to a battery fire hazard reportedly arising from misaligned hose clamps made for the battery cooling system.
The company, Fisker, announced the recall in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after it was discovered that the hose clamps for the battery cooling system were misaligned, which can result in a leak into the battery compartment, thereby posing a fire hazard. The recalled vehicle models include all models made from July 1, 2011 though November 3, 2011.
There have been no reports of fires to date.
The battery packs found in Fisker electric sedans are made by a company called A123 Systems.
Consumers with the recalled vehicle should expect a notification from the company beginning January 2012, at which point a local dealers can replace the faulty battery free of charge.
