A romaine lettuce recall previously limited to two states has now expanded to include nineteen and Canada, according to recent news sources.
True Leaf Farms is expanding the recall of 2,498 cartons of lettuce due to Listeria contamination to Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Vermont, as well as Alberta, Canada. All the affected products have a “use by” date of September 29, 2011.
No illnesses have been reported in relation to the recall.
Listeriosis is a serious infection from the Listeria monocytogenes organism that can have life-threatening effects on some people. Especially at risk are the elderly, very young people, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also at risk because they have been show to miscarry or have stillbirths after coming into contact with the organism.
The specific product recalled is 2# bags, chopped romaine- Bag and box code B256-46438-8.
