According to recent FDA news, there was an alert for a recall issued regarding salted smoked split herring that still presented its viscera. Reports show that there’s a possibility the product has been contaminated with clostridium botulinum.
The Quirch Foods C. from Miami, FL has announced that Leslie Leger and Sons Ltd. produced Salted Smokes Split Herring under the Plant Reg # 2406. It had to be recalled after a routine sample was collected at a retail store. The NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets have declared the product presented its viscera.
According to the authorities, botulinum spores are usually entirely conglobated in the animal’s viscera. Spores can cause a severe illness known as Botulism, which may cause among other things, dizziness, general weakness, abdominal distention, difficulty in breathing, constipation etc.
According to the producer, the packages were distributed in wooden boxes weighing 18lb to distributors in Florida, Georgia, Nassau BF and Puerto Rico.
