Renastart Batch Recalled Due to Improper Labeling

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 31, 2012

Vitaflo USA has issued a recall of a product designed to be used in the dietary management of pediatric renal disease.

The product in question is Renastart 14.11 ounce cans.  The batch number, which is listed on the underside of the product, is 12832.  The recall was announced because certain of the items may have been labelled improperly.  The product was shipped from December 29, 2011 to January 26, 2012, across the United States.

Renastart is a powdered medical food for patients one year and older.  Usage of the misidentified product can lead to high potassium or sodium levels in the blood.  These and other long term issues such as increased calcium, phosphorus, and protein levels can have a lasting impact on a user’s health and potentially lead to death.

No illnesses have been reported as yet.  Consumers of the affected product should stop using it at once, and if a patient has already ingested the product, then a healthcare professional should be contacted immediately to help seek nutritional management alternatives and stave off adverse effects.

I’ve seen a number of recalls as a personal injury lawyer in Riverside, but the ones that sadden me the most are recalls aimed at products used by children, especially when said products are meant to benefit a child’s health.  As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I hope that all affected consumers learn about this recall information before it’s too late.

South Carolina May Ban Children From Riding Motorcycles

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 30, 2012

Today I’d like to bring you word on one person’s fight to make it illegal for children under the age of 8 to be passengers on motorcycles (or to be drivers, but that should go without saying, right?)

A State Representative from Goose Creek, South Carolina, has introduced the bill, which has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.  According to reports, the representative is simply concerned about child safety.  If a kid cannot be properly secured to the vehicle, then he is not capable of safely riding that vehicle.

A helmet requirement does not go far enough because that doesn’t protect the children from other forms of injury, he said.  In addition, many smaller kids are not be able reach the pegs or maintain a good grip with their arms.  For all these reasons, the State Representative thinks a new law needs to be in place.

It’s unlawful in many states for kids in the affected age range not to be strapped into car seats, so a law like this makes sense to a Ventura car accident attorney like myself.  Motorcycles simply do not have the same safety standards as an automobile, and as a personal injury lawyer in Ventura, it seems that a law like this could help keep children safe.

Columbia ParCar Golf Carts Not Up To Par; Recall Announced

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 26, 2012

To many, there’s nothing more relaxing than a couple rounds of golf at a local club. That is, unless you lose control of your golf cart and crash.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with the Columbia ParCar Corporation of Wisconsin, has announced a recall of certain 2009, 2010, and 2011 Columbia ParCar golf carts, low speed service and utility vehicles. They were sold by ParCar dealers between July 1, 2008 and July 31, 2011 and ranged in price from $5,000 to $12,000. For the affected VIN numbers and specific units, please see the CPSC’s website. About 1,400 of the vehicles are affected.

The problem involves the proclivity of the lower steering yoke to become loose where it connects with the steering rack and pinion. If this happens, control can be lost and the vehicle may crash. If your vehicle is affected, you can bring it to a local ParCar dealer for a free inspection and maintenance.

As a San Francisco personal injury lawyer, I find it unfortunate that this product is experiencing these problems, but hopefully the recall information can filter out before any consumer is negatively affected. As a personal injury lawyer in San Francisco, I would hate to see someone hurt while engaging in a seemingly low-risk activity.

BMW Issues Recall Due To Possible Parking Failure

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on January 26, 2012

Driving a vehicle is hazardous enough, but once you’re parked and out of the car, you think you’re all good, right? Well, as it turns out, you don’t even have to be inside of your car for it to potentially cause damage to others.

BMW AG has announced a recall of certain of its 2012 model 20X5 xDrive 35i sport-utility vehicles. Only six vehicles are affected by the design flaw, but as you’ll see, the safety hazard is a large one. The vehicles were built between December 19 and December 21, 2011.

A production error affected the transmission case, causing the surface not be be properly machined. This means that possible excess friction in the transmission can prevent the vehicle from properly engaging its parking lock. Therefore, if the driver of the vehicle does not set the parking brake, the vehicle could roll away after the operator steps out.

Drivers of the affected automobiles can have their transmissions replaced by the company free of charge.

As a San Diego car accident lawyer, I’m used to dealing with cases involving cars where the driver is actually inside the vehicle, but one can see how this would still be a safety hazard. I hope the problem is fixed before a serious incident occurs, and as a car accident lawyer in San Diego, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to heed all recall directives.

Batteries In Jacket Heater Must Be Recalled, Overheating Hazard

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 17, 2011

According to news from the consumer reports this morning, the jacket heater manufactured by Columbia Sportswear comes with rechargeable batteries that may pose overheating threats to consumers. The company has announced that they’re issuing a recall of the defective products that are used to power the internal heaters present in the jackets.

The news have reported that the affected batteries are omni-heat lithium-polymer rechargeable items that were sold along the following products: Omni-Heat Gale Warning Interchange, Omni-Heat Electric Wader Widgeon and Omni-Heat Electric Big Game.

Each item was distributed with two batteries during the period between July and September by many various sporting goods dealers and outdoor activities stores all over the country.

According to the company and the article, one report regarding an overheating Omni-Heat battery was received from the main French distribution center. There haven’t been any other alleged incidents being reported.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I urge all consumers that may have purchased this product to return it immediately.  No product should pose a threat to your health or the health of your family.

For any situation that might have caused injuries to you or a loved one, don’t hesitate in calling a personal injury lawyer that will assist you with your case so an experienced and reliable attorney will represent you.

Explosions Prompt GE Rangetop Recall

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 27, 2011

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with General Electric, has issued a recall for one of their grill products due to an explosion hazard, according to recent news sources.

The product subject to recall is the GE Monogram® Pro Rangetop with Grill. About 470 have been sold. Six complaints have been made by consumers who experienced explosion problems, with reports of property damage. No injuries have been reported in relation to this recall.

The issue is with the burners located on the range that operate on propane gas. If the gas knob is left between the “off” and “lite” positions, the gas may not ignite, which increases the risk of delayed ignition, creating a potential for explosion.

The products have a stainless steel finish and are 36 or 48 inches wide. The brand is Monogram and the units were sold from May 2008 to August 2011 for about $3,400 or $4,700. Consumers who own this product can visit the CPSC website to find the affected serial numbers.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, consumer safety and keeping people informed of potential dangers of hazardous products is a big priority for me. I would like you to know that our product liability lawyers are here to help you and your loved ones if anything ever does happen because of an unsafe product. Do not hesitate to call us right away if any other consumer product has caused you pain and suffering. Please come back to our blog regularly so that you are informed about new dangerous consumer products.
