City Officials Promote Bicycle Safety

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 9, 2011

According to many news sources, Lafayette Parish has seen many of its residents being involved in bicycle crashes in the past 5 years, 344 to be exact. Residents have seen 18 of these crashes resulting in severe injuries and 7 fatal incidents. According to city officials, people are fed up. Awareness must be brought to the locals so this staggering number of casualties will be a thing of the past.

Local news articles have reported that the city is getting many measures done to bring awareness to the bicycle safety issue. Education is the number one priority at this stage. The public must be aware of the laws and aware of how to deal with cyclists when driving down the road.

Education for bicyclists is also a priority. Bikers should never ride against the traffic, according to an official. Headlamps and flashing red tail lamps are important when riding during nighttime and, as far as motorist’s education goes, drivers should be aware of their vehicle power: the car must be three feet away from the cyclists when passing them.

After education, biker friendly paths will be increased, according to local reports. The city hopes to prevent possible accidents in the future.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I hope that Lafayette Parish may be successful in bringing awareness to its residents, drivers or riders alike. Bicycle safety is a major priority for my fellow personal injury lawyers and me.

Bicycle Bash Hopes to Bring Safety Issues to Light

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 8, 2011

A recent Bicycle Bash promoted bike safety to all of its participants, according to recent reports from various news sources. Since a young woman lost her mother to a fatal bicycle versus vehicle accident, her life’s work has been making sure bike safety is spread and well publicized so all drivers out there take responsibility for their safety and the safety of others who are sharing the road with them.

Unlike most bicycle events, the Bicycle Bash doesn’t hope to promote bike riding; it hopes to bring safety issues to light in a fun way. The woman whose mother was killed while riding her bike allegedly believes that her story can bring people to understand her mission. Turning the terrible accident into something positive and that will bring awareness to the major public is worth the hard work.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I urge all drivers to be especially aware of bikers while speeding down any road. It’s our responsibility to keep roads safe for others and ourselves.

Personal injury lawyers can be of great assistance when dealing with a bicycle versus vehicle accident, don’t delay to call if necessary.

Beef Jerky Recalled due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 8, 2011

According to news recently published, the Texas-based company Whittington’s Jerky Inc. has issued a recall of their popular products due to an alleged Salmonella contamination. Over 120 pounds of beef jerky has possibly been contaminated after an infected sample was discovered in the process of a routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recalled products include 2oz packages of the Whittington’s Original Beef Jerky and the 4oz packages of the same product. The items that might have been affected by the contamination carry the production date as being Oct. 31, 2011.

As far we have heard from the many news sources, the products were distributed only to convenience stores in West Texas.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer, I hope that no consumer will be infected with salmonella. This dangerous bacterium causes one of the most severe food borne illnesses in humans. Fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea are a few of the symptoms. In persons who happen to have a weak immune system, salmonellosis may have fatal consequences.

Whenever a contaminated product threatens your life and you feel like you were the victim of a careless company policy, don’t hesitate to contact a product liability lawyer right away.

Recalled Gaudiano Organic Olives Allegedly Sold in Boston

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 7, 2011

News have reported that according to recent announcements from the FDA, organic olives distributed by a Watertown distributor had to unfortunately be recalled after being linked to cases of botulism reported from Europe.

The selling of this possible contaminated item can be traced back to SoWa Farmers Market, Foodies Urban Market and Russo’s & Sons. Other retailers might have sold the contaminated item as well.

News sources say that the U.S. Food and Drung Administration notifies consumers not to eat almond stuffed olives from the Bio Gaudiano Brand.

According to the FDA, although there were no reports of botulism in the United States, the recall was made necessary because the product had been linked to serious botulism cases in Europe. This disease is potentially fatal and although rare, the illness attacks the nervous system and causes respiratory failure.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, I hope that there will be no reports victims of this tragic illness linked to the recalled product. Personal injury lawyers can help all of you who have been threatened by a contaminated product. Don’t hesitate to contact an attorney right away so your case can be taken care of in a timely manner.

Nursing Home Patients being Neglected, Authorities Issue Citations

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 3, 2011

It has been reported by the news that the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in the State of Michigan has issued two citations to nursing homes that have violated regulations. Reports indicate that two elderly women under the care of these facilities presented serious signs of neglect.

According to the article, some other neglected patients demonstrated total immobility and absolute lack of hygiene, they allegedly refused to take showers claiming that the process was too painful. Another patient was discovered to have an alleged hip fracture that went undiagnosed for an unknown amount of time causing her a huge deal of pain. After the reports were issued, a watchdog is investigating closely.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated event. Reports of breaches in the regulation of nursing homes nationwide prove to be more common than we wish they would.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, I sincerely hope that all of those involved in the case of neglect reported in this article will recover under the great care of true professionals who are dedicated to their work and patients. Whenever you find yourself or a loved one under a situation where the presence of a personal injury lawyer is imperative, do not delay.

Hunting Knife Set Recalled after Defective Blade Mechanism

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on November 2, 2011

There was a recall issued for Winchester Hunting Knife Sets in the United States that were sold between the months of July and September of 2011 according to a news source. The company had to recall the product due to a defect in the knife’s latching mechanism related to the interchangeable blades, which may fail without warning and release the blades.

These knife sets may represent laceration hazard and for that reason, an estimation of 13,000 sets had to be recalled. Owners are advised to contact the importer responsible for the blades in the U.S. through their website (www.gerbergear.com) or phone number (877-314-9130) for more information on how to return their sets.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney I am familiar with the kind of suffering one can go through due to an unfortunate accident involving objects we own and previously thought to be safe. It’s my belief that we must be alert and proceed with caution before we deal with any kind of product that could eventually pose as a threat to our safety and the safety of others.

If you ever find yourself being the victim of an accident related to defective products don’t hesitate to call a product liability lawyer that can help you with your case.

Patient Advocacy Groups Offers Advice For Staying Safe in Hospitals

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 26, 2011

While most people associate hospitals with getting healthier, it is sometimes the case that patients who go to a hospital for treatment actually end up getting sicker there than they were to begin with. Consumer advocacy groups are continually trying to make hospitals safer places for patients. According to member of the Safe Patient Project, following these suggestions can help you stay safe in hospitals.

  1. Watch a video of the surgery you’re planning on getting. Advocate research suggests that patients misunderstand the severity of procedure that they are undergoing, and thus approach it as well as the recovery lightly. The reality may surprise you, and prepare you for what you are going to endure.
  2. Check the internet for user reviews of the hospital you are hoing to use. Sites like Yelp! could notify you of some of the problems other patients had.
  3. As a malpractice attorney for Doctor recommendations. They’ve seen a lot, and can often tell you which ones have good reputations and which ones you may want to avoid for certain procedures.
  4. Bring a device with internet access to the hospital. You never know what you may want to look up on the fly.
  5. The most important thing you can do is to bring someone with you whom you can trust. They can act in your place should an emergency arise, and can be your eyes and ears if you are in a position where you cannot observe what is happening.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer, I know how important it is to document medical problems you may have had during a hospital stay. If you or someone you know was injured in a hospital, it’s in your best interest to contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer as soon as possible in order to evaluate your legal options.

Evergreen Enterprises Recalls Gel Fuel

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 25, 2011

Evergreen Enterprises, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a voluntary recall of their pourable gel fuel due to a fire and burn hazard, according to recent news sources.

The product is called Fireside Gel Fuel Bottles and about 23,400 units are affected by this recall. This recall follows a string of recalls of similar products, after many complaints were filed. No injuries have been reported to the manufacturer of this particular brand at this time. However, the gel fuel has proven to be a danger when it splatters.

The product comes in plastic bottles in the 30 ounce size. The bottles were sold in packs of 12. Model numbers 5G001 and 5G002 are affected, with UPC numbers 746851581199 and 746851581205, respectively. The product comes with or without citronella. The bottles were sold through independent retailers from December 2010 to September 2011 and retailed for between about $9.99 and $11.99.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, I hope that consumers will return this dangerous product. If you or someone you care about has been injured by a defective product, it’s in your best interest to contact a product defect lawyer as soon as possible. You may be entitled to compensation for the pain and suffering you endured.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms Fail to Alert Consumer, Recalled

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 19, 2011

About 20,000 Carbon Monoxide detectors have been recalled after it was discovered that they fail to alert owners when they need to be replaced, according to recent new sources.

The recalled products, CO 1224T Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors, were made by ADT Security Sevices Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida. Carbon Monoxide detectors should alert the owner when they are coming to the end of their life, as well as sending a signal to ADT’s alarm monitoring center. However, some of the products are not properly wired, which means neither the ADT center nor the consumer are made aware of the product no longer functioning. This could lead to a poisoning hazard.

No injuries have been reported in relation to this recall at this time. The products were sold between October 2008 and December 2010 as a part of home security installations.

If you have one of these alarms, you can contact ADT for a free inspection and free repair. ADT has contacted all customers affected by this recall.

The Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer at our law firm believes that consumer safety should be the number one priority of product manufacturers. We know that even with all of the rules and regulations imposed upon product manufacturers, things can still go wrong and sometimes companies even put profit before safety. If you or a loved one has been affected by a defective product, please do not hesitate to call a product liability lawyer right away. The longer you wait the more chance you have of losing evidence for your potential product liability case.

California Healthcare Officials Launch Campaign Against Hospital Infections

A campaign that focuses on infection prevention and improved medical outcomes has been launched by the California Hospital Association, according to recent news sources.

The California Hospital Association president stated,

“Hospitals across California are making huge strides in improving the quality of care by advancing a culture of safety. Our campaign will highlight these efforts, as well as engage patients as our partners, with reminders about good safety practices that everyone should follow.”

The Association has utilized the internet and television to get the message to the public. The TV advertisement is a one-minute campaign focusing on doctors and nurses talking about the steps that can be taken by caregivers as well as the public to keep patients from becoming infected by other illnesses in hospitals. They cite washing hands before and after contact with those who are ill, and receiving vaccinations and flu shots.

The campaign on the internet features an ad that describes how hospitals are working to reduce infections, falls by patients, and blood poisoning.

According to California health officials, 12,000 people die yearly in California from healthcare related infections that occur in hospitals. In the United States as a whole, 99,000 deaths occur as a result of infections acquired in hospitals. This increases spending by an estimated $33 billion each year.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, I’m glad to see California officials recognizing this issue. If you or someone you care about has been injured in a hospital and believe it was the fault of another party, I recommend speaking with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your legal options.
